DTB Sports Club

In promotion of work-life-balance, DTB-Tanzania has embedded staff participation in extra-curricular activities through sports. The bank has elite Football and Basketball teams, both competing in competitive leagues in Tanzania.

DTB Football

The history of the DTB Football team can be traced back in 2010. By then, the players could converge after work and over weekends for fun matches. In the year 2013, the team started featuring in-corporate competitions and interbank tournament popularly known as Brazuka Kibenki. The team won numerous non-elite corporate tournaments including the Inter-banks competition (brazuka kibenki) championship in 2015, 2017 and 2019.

Given the winning track record, the football team registered for Tanzania Football League Division III (as DTB Football Club) through Kinondoni Football Association in 2018 and qualified for the Regional Championship League (RCL) and eventually to the National Second Division League in 2019/20 season.

  • Won the inter-bank Brazuka Kibenki tournament championship in 2015 maiden season
  • Runners up in Brazuka Kibenki championship losing to NMB Bank in the finals of 2016
  • Won the inter-bank Brazuka Kibenki championship in 2017
  • Won the inter-bank Brazuka Kibenki championship in 2018
  • Qualified for the Tanzania Second Division League (SDL) 2019/20 season

As a family of sports enthusiasts, we look forward to an exciting league campaign which kicks off in early October 2019. DTB-Tanzania football team will feature as the only team from the banking industry to participate in the Tanzanian National football league.

DTB Marathon

The bank encourages for good citizenry through engagement in community improvement initiatives. Often, staff members take part in charity marathon events across the branch network to raise funds for various charitable entities.

The Tanga branch staff members took part in the 5 KM walk and 21 Km marathon respectively. In its third year running, the Tanga City Marathon which was held on the 7th of April 2019, attracted more than 1,000 elite and non-elite runners from all parts of the country. Dar es Salaam Regional Basketball Association (RBA) League

DTB Basketball team is once again taking part in elite Basketball league - The Dar es Salaam Regional Basketball Association (RBA) League – 2021 season.

The RBA league which is no doubt, the most coveted Basketball League in Tanzania, has proved to be very competitive after the emergence of new teams with array of talents in ball handling, rebounding, outside shooting and perimeter dominance. This year, RBA League is evenly divided in 2 groups or conferences of East and West each all made - up of 8 and 7 teams respectively.

DTB Basketball team is placed in Eastern Conference alongside other the Basketball powerhouses of Savio, Kurasini Heat, Chui, Oilers, Ukonga Warriors, Vijana City Bulls and Mgulani JKT. The Western conference teams are ABC, Pazi, JKT, Mchenga, UDSM Outsiders, Jogoo and Ukonga Kings.

DTB team is competing in the RBA league for the second season running after narrowly failing to qualify for play-off berth last year. Led by point guard - Alex Mbwana, team DTB won its first 3 season opening games against Oilers (63 – 43), Vijana City Bulls (60 – 43) and Ukonga Warriors (76 – 56) before falling down to the mighty Savio (61 – 45) and Kurasini Heats by half a basket (78 – 77) in a hotly contested game.

Team DTB in its second season in RBA league, still has a chance of qualifying for the RBA playoffs should they win 2 of the remaining 3 matches in the regular season against Chui and Mgulani JKT.

The future for DTB Basketball team looks bright despite the back to back losses against Savio and Kurasini Heats in the RBA league. The team is comprised of young players with capability to improve and develop into a championship team.

DTB Basketball Club

The DTB Basketball team has also been a power to reckon to in the Inter-banks competition (brazuka kibenki) championships. Like the Football team, it’s entirely made up of staff members from the corporate office and branches.

The team has won the Brazuka kibenki Tournament back to back in 2017 and 2018 by beating Banc ABC and NMB respectively in the final matches.

The Basketball team is currently participating in Division I league (commonly known as D- league) and doing well, raising hopes of qualification for the elite Regional Basketball Association (RBA).

Summary of the achievements of basketball team-:

  • Won the inter-bank Brazuka Kibenki championship in 2017

  • Registered for Dar es Salaam Region Division I league ( D- league)
