DTB Commits TZS 250 million to the Aga Khan Education Service, Tanzania Scholarship Fund
Diamond Trust Bank Tanzania Plc has donated TZS 250 million to the Aga Khan Education Service (AKES), Tanzania, to support scholarships for Tanzanian students to study the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme over the next five years. Announced at a handover ceremony in Dar es Salaam, the initiative aims to empower talented students—especially those from underserved backgrounds—by providing access to a globally recognised curriculum that promotes critical thinking, ethical leadership and academic excellence.
The scholarship programme builds on a renewed Memorandum of Understanding between the Aga Khan Development Network and the IB, strengthening access to quality education across the Global South. At AKES, Tanzania, the IB curriculum is tailored to local contexts and extends beyond the classroom through community, cultural and environmental projects. DTB emphasized that by reducing financial barriers to education, the initiative will help develop a strong pipeline of future Tanzanian leaders and set a benchmark for private-sector involvement in education and sustainable development.
